Future Internet Assembly - - Registration still open
The theme of this year's edition will be “Smart Cities and Internet of Things”. The programme features discussions on how the Future Internet can be used to make our cities smarter and become a basis for more innovation, how the architecture of the Internet of Things relates to the Future Internet. Successful business models for IoT applications will be highlighted. Workshops will focus on the impact of HTML5, interoperability of clouds, gaming and future networks. The event is part of the Future Internet Week. Registration is still open.

Public consultation on the accessibility of goods and services in the European market - deadline is 29 February
The Commission is reflecting on the development of a European Accessibility Act containing measures to improve the accessibility of goods and services in the European market. This consultation is part of the preparatory data collection that will underpin the assessment of the impact of the measures. The consultation – itself fully accessible –is aimed at gathering views from businesses, people with disabilities and the general public and will remain open until 29 February 2012.

Future Network and MobileSummit - Call for Papers & Workshop Submissions
In the context of convergence and innovation, the 21st Future Network and MobileSummit will address the challenges of building the Future Internet Infrastructures, based on mobile, wireless and fixed broadband communications technologies. High-quality scientific papers (up to 8 pages) and proposals for Workshop topics are invited for online submission from 9 November until 9 December 2011.

Future Network and Mobile Summit 2011
This conference will address all the challenges of building the Future Internet, which will be based on mobile, wireless and fixed broadband communications infrastructures. The Summit showcases European research in the field, in particular from the EU Future Networks projects, and positions it within the multiplicity of related initiatives supported in other regions of the world. The scientific programme is based on an open Call for Papers, with Research, Technical, Visionary or Techno-Economic Scenarios in focus. A Proposers' Networking Day will take place on Tuesday 14 June as a pre-conference event. The focus is on the upcoming FP7 and Celtic-Plus research funding opportunities relevant to the networks community.

Second W3C Web and TV Workshop
The IT industry is building the future web platform at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Open global standards for web technology are starting to be deployed in browsers, and the web community is enthusiastic about several new features such as location-based services. W3C is organizing this workshop to bring the television industry and other producers of consumer electronics into the discussion. Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to share their own perspectives, requirements, and ideas to ensure that emerging global standards meet their needs. Additionally, a W3C Interest Group on "Web and TV" is currently being created, and the results of this second workshop will be fed into the work of this interest group.

2nd European Summit on the Future Internet
One year after the 1st European Summit on the Future Internet, which took place in Luxembourg, the pace of technological development has continued unabated. Multiple initiatives have been launched worldwide in an attempt to identify the business and technological opportunities as well as the challenges that lie ahead in the transition to Internet enabled smart infrastructures. The 2nd European Summit on the Future Internet will be held on the 6th June 2011 and will provide a natural forum for the presentation and discussion of the issues, trends and actions confronting the future of the Internet. The summit will be the focal point for the exchange and sharing of lessons learnt and for the presentation and discussion of some of the developments that have taken place in the domain of smart cities. Particular emphasis will be given to presenting the first set of successful projects from the Future Internet PPP call. 6th Future Internet Assembly
The 6th Future Internet Assembly will take place in Ghent (Belgium) on 16-17 December. The topics of this FIA have been selected along the suggestions given by the community and resulted in a balanced set of sessions addressing technological, social and economic issues of the Future Internet together with possible application scenarios. A novelty of this edition of FIA will be the demonstrations that are organised jointly with ServiceWave (http://servicewave.eu/2010/) and FIRE (http://fire-ghent.fi-week.eu/). FIA Ghent will be part of the Future Internet Conference Week, from 13-17 December 2010, a series of events concerning different aspects of the Future Internet and will be collocated with iMinds, an event with focus on Information Technology innovation that the host (IBBT) organises yearly with great success (http://www.fi-week.eu/). OLDES - An Affordable and Customisable Telecardiology System
The OLDES project, after peer review evaluation, has been selected as one of the 25 nominees for the IT @ 2011. The project intends to offer new technological solutions to improve the quality of life of older people, through the development of a very low cost and easy to use entertainment and health care platform, designed to ease the life of the elderly in their homes. OLDES project aims to plan and develop an innovative technological system for tele-assistance and tele-accompany, thanks to the joint work of 11 EU partners. The OLDES system has been experimented on two testing pilots in Bologna and in Prague. In the town of Bologna more than 100 mature adults have been involved and to access the services, they have been provided a home gateway made up by a set-top-box (a small, low cost PC) and a remote control.

W3C Web on TV Workshop: Web technologies, broadcasting and non-PC devices
The IT industry is building the future Web platform at W3C. HTML5, CSS, SVG, and other open global standards for Web technology are starting to be deployed in browsers, and the Web community is enthusiastic about a host of new features such as location-based services. W3C has begun to organize a series of workshops to bring the television industry and other producers of consumer electronics into the discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to share their own perspectives, requirements, and ideas to ensure that emerging global standards meet their needs. The first workshop in the series takes place in Japan and emphasizes participation (in multiple languages) by companies from Japan, Korea, China, and other countries in Asia (though anybody may attend). The second workshop, in Europe, is likely to take place during the first quarter of 2011.
