1st Progress Report (01/07/2008 to 30/06/2009): PUBLISHABLE SUMMARY

T-Seniority is a SaaS (“Software as a Service”) via TV to empower the Independent Living of Older People.

Its final goal is to contribute to maintain and improve Elder’s independence through a set of Service Offers where end users are the central stakeholders.

The main outcome of the Initial Deployment of T-Seniority is a coherent strategy for making possible at its end to tackle a full deployment of interoperable (general and personal socio-sanitary e-Services). Accordingly, Initial Deployment requires a complete and realistic combination of business and technological works.

Technically the project is conducted by partner IDI EIKON, the technological partner of the Consortium contributing the technology and contributing also to all the work packages.

Central to T-Seniority is the need to meet the diverse needs of stakeholders throughout Europe. A key part of the work will be ensuring a high standard service for users and citizens. For the deployment of the T-Seniority service at the different countries an intensive technical effort is required and IDI EIKON is taking care of it.

Main events or facts during the course of this first period, having an impact in the pilots planned have been:

  • DTT high expectations as the top communication TV interactive channel, has lost ground, due to several reasons: A war of standards.
  • MHP: a closed market within reach of very few? Lack of interactivity in the great majority of STB sold in the market. MHP loses force and enters an interim stand still situation
  • Appearance of new potential standards in the horizon?
  • The uneven situation of digital switch over across Europe;
  • The granting of TV licenses. A close circle not accessible to all, dominated by big actors and prohibitive costs for small city councils. Very contested at National level and much debated in al countries due to its strong political implications. Global economic turndown producing, among others, a debacle of many Telecoms operators;
  • Technologies convergence and with it a fierce competence for audiences (triple and quadruple play telecoms services);
  • Gaming consoles growing acceptance and popularity, we find that IPHN, outside the very minority that can afford TV broadcasting demands, is becoming the only alternative left.

Despite the internal and external factors impacting the initial Plan a prompt management response has allowed us to follow ahead, overcoming the difficulties and reaching the objectives on time and form.

During this report period the objectives to reach were the customization and technical testing of the pilots, ending in this first phase of the project in the deployment of General Public e-Care Services and we can conclude this summary by saying they have been accomplished.
